A leading telecom operator in India appointed Tata Strategic to assess, recommend and develop a business plan for entering new telecom circles.
Tata Strategic carried out a comprehensive analysis of the macro-economic factors in the various regions to get an idea of the market potential. The team developed a new model to estimate the growth in India's mobile subscriber base and determine the share of the new circles. A study of the activities of existing players and potential entrants helped the team to predict the market share for the client and expected ARPU.
The team used this data to develop a detailed financial model to establish the capital required for the investment and project the profitability of each circle over the next 5 years. The team was also able to demonstrate strategic rationale for the investment based on market share upsides for neighboring circles and increased roaming revenues.
Impact
Based on the recommendations made by Tata Strategic the operator went ahead with the plan and applied for licenses in the new circles.
