The issue of income versus well being has been highlighted by Prof Stiglitz and others. Well being, in the Indian context needs to consider a range of indicators representing material and social factors. Computing a Well Being Index by district reveals wide disparities – even in the same state. Even more surprising diversity amongst districts is revealed by a Female Security Index.
