Several entities in India and abroad operate in multiple businesses. These include large diversified conglomerates and smaller multi-business companies. The corporate centre of an entity plays a critical role in managing its various businesses. It has to set the overall direction of the business, review business portfolio and decide on priorities, define its own role and structure, plan priorities for each business and for the entire entity, develop a robust strategic planning process, plan annual operations, set up review mechanisms taking into account shareholder interest, develop a performance management system, and put in place common functions. TSMG has worked closely with a number of multi-business conglomerates and smaller multi-business companies worldwide and has addressed critical corporate strategy issues like business portfolios, corporate centre role, governance and review processes, corporate restructuring and turnaround strategies, planning processes and performance management systems. Experience with our own parent group not-withstanding, TSMG’s diversified practice has given us a strong grasp of the relevant concepts and analyses required, as also of the process and implementation issues. TSMG has worked with several diversified business houses including the Tata group, the Kalyani group, ACI and Rangs Group in Bangladesh and the Zamil’s group in Saudi Arabia on issues of strategy and deployment. |
