Transparency in projects must for better water management

According to water report prepared by the CII and Tata TSMG and released at the summit, the state, despite being one of the most developed states in India, is water deficient. The average availability of water in the state is 1,137 cubic metres per capita against the national average of 1,820 cubic metres per capita, the report said.

Mr. Pratik Kadakia,Tata Strategic Management Group, predicted that the Indian speciality chemicals would return to pre-slowdown growth rates of about 15% per annum in 1-2 years. The short-term demand in end-use segments like textiles, construction and paints was severely affected due to slowdown in 2008-09. “Indian speciality and knowledge chemicals market could reach a size of $40-bn in the next 2-3 years from $18-bn in 2006,” he observed.

The consulting firm believes that investments from players with deep pockets as well as start-ups will fuel the growth. Pankaj Gupta, practice head, consumer and retail, Tata Strategic Management Group (TSMG), said: “H&W will be one of the mega trends driving the transformation of the packaged foods market in India. While start-ups will also enter the industry in niche areas, the main thrust will be from large players as they have the necessary distribution channel and brand development capabilities.”
